You will never be forgotten

“See, I have inscribed you on the palm of My hands; your walls are continually before Me.” (Isaiah 49:16)

Have you ever had a bad day turn into a bad week, turn into a bad month, turn into a bad year? Judah was in the middle of one of those times. The storm clouds of impending judgment had begun to gather, and God was preparing to hold His people accountable for forsaking Him. Assyria and Babylon were growing in power, and it would not be long before living in exile became the new reality for God’s people.
In the middle of tumultous times, it is tempting to proclaim that God has forgotten us. Both Israel and Judah struggled with the idea that God has abandoned them. But God took steps to contradict this notion. In an image that prefigures Jesus’ crucifixion, God boldly proclaimed that His children were engraved on the palms of His hands. The nail-scarred hands that His Son would endure bear the engraved names of all of us who call upon Him as Saviour and Lord.
God does not forget us in the midst of our troubles! It is His nail-scarred hand that reaches down and holds our own.
