By God’s Grace

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does fron beginning to end.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

Our souls know there is a God. The souls of unbelievers know it, too. By setting “eternity in the hearts of men” God gave us a longing for Him. That deep desire is fulfilled in those who accept Jesus, but those who deny Him have to find something else to scratch the itch. That unfulfilled longing is the best explanation for abuses of alcohol, drugs, and power.

Of course, earthly desires are traps, but sometimes they are even used by believers to bloster faith weakened by a lack of understanding.

Our human nature needs to understand. It is a problem that holds many a believer and unbeliever back. No one can completely “fathom what God has done”. That is what makes Him God. And yet, still we try.

Thankfully, our hearts do not need to understand; neither do they need earthly “fixes”. They just need to be set free, to find God and reveal in the beauty of His never-ending Creation. Believers, stop letting unanswerable questions prevent you from loving Him more completely. And unbelievers, ask yourself, if you had every material thing you could want, would not your heart still be reaching out for eternity?
