“I love the Lord, because He has heard my voice and my supplications.” (Psalms 116:1)

So many verses in the book of Psalms are songs of lament. Hurting, pain, struggle... certainly God understands these things. Some of these verses can be outright depressing if you really consider them for very long.
Psalms 116:1, though, is a wonderful short verse that should not be missed. It is neither lament nor praise, as are many of the other psalms. But it is a strong assurance of hope. Whether we are offering our praise to God or falling at His feet with our struggles, we know from these few words that God hears us. Isn’t that mind-blowing? The almighty God of the universe who created and assembled every particle in existence hears us when we come before Him.
Maybe we go to the Lord in song, praising. Maybe we spend some time reading and thinking about God’s Word. Maybe we are praying to Him as we reach out for His comfort. Whatever we do, God hears us and is interested in what we have to say. Isn’t that a great reason to love the Lord? May we never forget to give thanks to God daily for the opportunity that He provides us simply to be heard.
